DEC. 5—Duquesne University’s Small Business Center will present AARP Foundation’s Work for Yourself @50+ seminar, 5 to 7 p.m. at the Carnegie Library Hill District branch, 2177 Centre Avenue, Pittsburgh 15219. Work for Yourself@50+ helps low- and moderate-income adults age 50+ gain the knowledge, support, and resources they need to make informed decisions and take the right first steps toward successful self-employment. Topics covered include: perils and potential of self-employment; developing self-employment ideas; help in avoiding pitfalls and scams, and finding trustworthy supports and services. Cost $15. In this intriguing and enlightening seminar, learn how to approach the challenges that business owners are facing with making changes with their team and with their own approach to business. Topics include: holding teams accountable; the formula for making change; effectively communicating with different profiles, and looking internally and externally at obstacles and barriers. Annual Business Luncheon

DEC. 18—The African American Chamber of Commerce of Western Pennsylvania will host its Annual Business Luncheon, 12 p.m., Omni William Penn Hotel, 550 William Penn Place, Pittsburgh, 15219. The keynote speak for this year’s event is Pricewaterhouse Coopers U.S. President and Managing Partner Tim Ryan. Cost $75 for members, $90 for non-members.
