The New Pittsburgh Courier has learned that Gwen’s Girls executive director Kathi Elliott, DNP, MSW, CRNP, has joined Chatham University’s Board of Trustees.

“This is a tremendous honor,” Dr. Elliott told the Courier in an exclusive interview. “I chose to pursue and obtain a terminal degree in nursing at Chatham University because of their long history of supporting and uplifting women. This aligns with my life’s purpose. I am truly humbled by the appointment and opportunity to serve in this leadership capacity. As the university continues to make great efforts to meet the diverse needs of their students, faculty, and community at-large, I plan to contribute in any way that I can to continue the legacy of this great institution.”

Dr. Elliott graduated from Chatham University with a Doctorate of Nursing Practice in August 2014. She also earned dual Master’s degrees in Nursing and Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh. Advocacy and giving back to others in need is a value that has been instilled in her by her mother and founder of Gwen’s Girls, the late Commander Gwen Elliott. Dr. Elliott has over 20 years of experience in social service, community and individual mental health treatment. In August 2015, Dr. Elliott accepted the position of executive director at Gwen’s Girls, whose mission is to empower girls and young women to have productive lives through exposure to holistic, gender-specific programs, education and experiences.

“We’re delighted to have Kathi join the Chatham board,” said Dr. David Finegold, President of Chatham University. “She is an ideal trustee: an alumna of one of our most successful degree programs, a great partner in applied research and service activities, and, most of all, a leader in the community who shares Chatham’s commitment to empowering young women and helping them reach their full potential.”
