On Saturday, Nov. 19, the Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh and the University of Pittsburgh Clinical & Translational Science Institute co-organized the Annual Thanksgiving Distribution at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. This yearly event combines a food distribution where families receive all the ingredients needed for a Thanksgiving meal. There is also a health and human services village, where participants hear about Pitt+MeTM research studies and can get important health screenings and information from human services organizations. This year’s event served 700 families from Allegheny, Beaver, Greene, Lawrence and Washington Counties. Over 200 individuals received a free health screening. We cannot do this without the support of the community and send a big thank you to the 450 volunteers, vendors and staff who helped to make this year’s event successful.
