The Pittsburgh Steelers have experienced some popcorn issues this season and coach Tomlin said “popcorn” refers to a splattering of small issues affecting the team.

Beaver Falls had their ‘Popcorn Poppin’ on Friday at Heinz Field with a, 35-22, victory over Aliquippa for the WPIAL Class 3A championship.

The fast-paced Tigers have been eyeing a rematch with Aliquippa since falling to the Quips, 44-13, in week one.

Beaver Falls took an early 14-0 first quarter lead behind touchdowns by Derrell Carter and Amen Cottrill.

Derrell Carter, 5-foot-10, 164-pound senior, has versatility and production that has produced scholarship offers from Eastern Michigan, Howard, Towson and Robert Morris.

Carter is the team’s leading receiver and second leading rusher, as well as an outstanding defensive back.

Carter caught a 50-yard touchdown, ran 14 times for 140 yards and intercepted a pass in Beaver Falls’ 35-22 win over Aliquippa in the WPIAL 3A championship game.

Beaver Falls coach Ryan Matsook joined his brother, Gene, and his father, Dan, as coaches of WPIAL title winners.

Gene has four titles at Rochester and Dan also won two with the Rams in the early 1990s.
