UPDATE (10/26/16): Early this morning, the Western Pennsylvania Fugutive Task Force along with the Pittsburgh Police served two arrest warrants in connection with the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Daija McCall in Homewood on September 17.

The first arrest warrant was executed in the 6200 block of St Marie Street in East Liberty. At this location, 16-year-old Steven Cansler of East Liberty was arrested for the homicide. He will be charged with criminal homicide, robbery, criminal use of a communications device, and criminal conspiracy. Additionally, a firearm was recovered at the residence and Cansler will subsequently face firearms violations as well. Cansler is being charged as an adult. A recent mugshot is below.

The second arrest warrant was executed in the 300 block of Dunlap Street in Perry North. The intended warrant suspect was not located at this address; however, 19-year-old Brent Simms of Perry North was arrested and charged with various narcotics violations. Simms was not arrested in connection to the homicide.

Police continue to look for the second homicide suspect. His name is not being released at this time.


PITTSBURGH, PA – At approximately 3:10 p.m., September 17, Zone 5 received a ShotSpotter notification that 11 shots had been fired in the 5900 block of Upland Street in Homewood. Upon arrival, Officers discovered a 17-year-old female had been shot while walking near the intersection of Mount Vernon Street and Belmar Street. Paramedics pronounced her dec eased at the scene. The Violent Crime Unit is continuing the investigation.
