Nothing has changed over the past few months as far as Black homicides. There were four homicides in the month of September with all being Black, and all young; three males and one female, ages 25, 20, 17 and 17.
The Courier lists the number of homicides in Allegheny County every month to bring attention to the large number of Black homicides in an effort to bring this to the attention of the politicians, law enforcement agencies, but most importantly, the community so that through joint efforts, hopefully, we can either bring a halt to these tragedies or at least curtail them. Four is a low number. It is only through community groups and organizations, and concerned individuals that this will be accomplished.
One such effort was the recent Women’s Walk for Peace that drew hundreds, as well as the North Side Oldtimers and the Community Empowerment Association Black Family Reunion weekends.
