Iconic performer Ben Vereen is grateful to his fans for their years of support and loyalty to him. As a result, he is performing his one-man show, “Steppin Out with Ben Vereen” at Shady Side Academy’s Hillman Center for the Performing Arts for one night only this Saturday, Sept. 17.

“This is my gratitude show. I get the chance to say ‘thank you’ to Pittsburgh,” said Vereen who was born and raised in and still resides in New York City. “I started out playing at the Holiday House in Pittsburgh many years ago and things have gone on from there so this is my chance to say, ‘look what we’ve done together.’”

“Steppin’ Out with Ben Vereen,” which is a pre cursor to the upcoming play “Brooklyn to Broadway,” is a blend of artistry combining a tribute to Sammy Davis Jr. featuring hit songs such as “Defying Gravity,” “Mr. Bo Jangles” “For Good” from the musical “Wicked,” “Life is just a Bowl of Cherries” and “Ben Vereen Sings Broadway.” It is a contemporary and timeless journey through the triple threats Broadway songbook and each performance is mixed with heart and humor.
