BEREA, Ohio (AP) — Robert Griffin III has been named the Cleveland’s starting quarterback by Browns coach Hue Jackson.
The announcement was expected after RG3 signed a two-year, $15 million free-agent contract with Cleveland during the offseason following his release from Washington. Jackson made it official on Monday, saying “it’s time” and that Griffin “has earned the right to be named the starting quarterback.”
Griffin has had a strong training camp under Jackson, who is in his first season in Cleveland. Griffin beat out veteran Josh McCown, whose future with the team is uncertain.
