STARGELL AWARDEES—Alex Matthews, Brenda Tate and Alex Beasley

June 29 was a night of champions at the popular Savoy Restaurant. Achieving Greatness, Incorporated in conjunction with The Office of the Mayor for the City of Pittsburgh, Frank Fuhrer Company, Highmark, Pittsburgh Pirates, Office of the Chief Executive Allegheny County and the Office of the District Attorney proudly presented the Forty Second Annual Willie “Pops” Stargell Memorial MVP and Celebrating Women Awards.

Forty-two years ago Willie Stargell made Pittsburgh someplace special. Since that time Bill Neal has kept the Stargell name, legacy and the “we are family” credo alive.  Neal says no other city represents that phrase “we are family” better than Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the city of champions. Neal thanked Savoy’s Chuck Sanders and Gary White for hosting the sellout crowd.

During this mid-week celebration outstanding members of the Pittsburgh and County communities were recognized for their commitment and sacrifices for all they do day in and day out to make the world a better place. The Willie Stargell MVP Awardees included: Fredrick Allegheny Douglas, Darelle Porter, Larry Richert, Louis Lipps, Odell Richardson, Al Smith, Alex Beasley, David Moore, Jeff Clement, Alex Matthews, Baron B.B. Flenory (2016 MVP of the Year). The Willie Stargell Celebrating Women Awardees included: Regina Holly, Alice Logan, Nicole Navarez, Tia Harris-McClung, Lorraine Turner, Marci Balistrieri, Shayla Scott, Wrenna Watson, Doreen Moore, Naomi Allen and Brenda Tate (2016 Celebrating Women of the Year).
