PITTSBURGH (AP) _ The transit agency serving the Pittsburgh-area is spending more than $70 million to buy 170 new buses.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette (http://bit.ly/28J0wgM ) says the Port Authority of Allegheny County will vote Friday on approving a $34.1 million contract to buy 70 buses set to arrive by October 2017. A previously approved $32.9 million contract will deliver 75 new buses this fall.
Finally, the authority still has plans to order 25 new buses, also for delivery next year.
The authority is buying the buses from Gillig LLC.
The buses will generally replace older buses in the authority’s 726-bus fleet.
The oldest buses in the fleet are from 2003. By next year, all buses that old will have been replaced.
