PITTSBURGH, PA (June 9, 2016) – On Tuesday, June 14, Citiparks will open 16 outdoor swimming pools for the summer season and six spray parks will begin daily operation.

The Citiparks pools are located in Highland Park, Riverview Park, Schenley Park, Banksville, Bloomfield, Brighton Heights, Carrick, Greenfield, Hill District, Homewood, Lincoln Place, Mt. Washington, North Side, Polish Hill, Sheraden and South Side. Two additional pools, located in Brookline and Westwood, currently are undergoing repairs and will open on dates to be announced.

A new pool liner is currently being installed at Westwood Pool. If the weather cooperates, work should be completed within the week and officials hope to open Westwood Pool by Saturday, June 18.

On Friday, June 3, Citiparks officials were notified by Allegheny Health Department Inspectors that Moore Pool in Brookline did not pass routine inspection. Moore Park Pool has a failed electrical service that must be redesigned and rebuilt. Repairs to the electrical system will take place during the months of June and July. Citiparks officials are hopeful that repairs will be completed by the end of July.

Thanks to support from District 4 Councilwoman Natalia Rudiak and Citiparks officials, shuttle buses will transport Brookline residents from Moore Park to Banksville Pool on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning on June 14. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, a shuttle bus will depart Moore Park for Banksville Pool at 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. Return shuttles will depart Banksville for Moore Park at 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. daily.

Hours of operation for operating outdoor pools are weekdays 1 p.m. – 7:45 p.m. and Saturdays, Sundays and holidays 1 p.m. – 5:45 p.m. City residents can purchase pool tags for year-round admission to Citiparks outdoor pools or pay a daily admission.

Again this summer, any City resident 15 years or younger who is a member of a Citiparks Recreation Center will be able to use that pass at a pool for free admission. To receive free admission, a parent must register each child — who must be 15 years or younger and a resident of the City of Pittsburgh — at any of Citiparks’ 10 Recreation Centers and then bring the membership card to the pool each day for entry.

Beginning on June 14, six Citiparks spray parks will operate from 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. daily (weather permitting).  Spray parks — located in Beechview, Beltzhoover, East Hills, Hazelwood, Shadyside and Troy Hill — are free and will remain open through early fall.
