The months are flying by so fast I almost forgot my mission to do something new or go somewhere I have not been before each month. I have been driving by a restaurant that looked interesting and I think I noticed a few friends of mine giving it good reviews on Facebook. In April I finally got to visit Urban Tab located on Carson Street on the Southside. I went there for dinner and had a beet salad with chicken. The first thing I noticed when I took the first bite was how spicy and hot it was. I asked the waitress what was in it and she told me jalapeno peppers. I must have missed that ingredient on the menu. To the restaurant’s credit they remade my salad without the peppers and it was great. I noticed that they do a brunch on Saturdays and Sundays that I think I would like to try. However there are so many new restaurants that I haven’t tried I’m not sure when I will make it back.
In May my something new was the play “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.” Once again this was driven by Facebook Wali Jamal posted this on his page. He was one of the actors in the play at the Hazlet Theatre. Many years ago I saw the movie and really enjoyed it so I was anxious to see the play. Frankly I didn’t know that there was a play, I’m sure the play was done first. The Pittsburgh production was well done and I saw it on the last night of the play’s run.
I know a lot of you like live theater and I hope you are keeping up with the productions that are coming to Pittsburgh. By the time you read this May will be half over but I promise to keep you posted on some great events that are coming up this summer. On May 14, I invite you to join me on the pink carpet for Classic Events Fourth Annual Ladies Who Network event at Hosanna House in Wilkinsburg. Doors open at 2 p.m. and it is only $10. We should have a lot of fun. There will be a tea hosted by Michele Goodman-Jones, a Patty Labelle impersonator and light refreshments.
