“Girls, you look so sharp, anytime you pass in the pum pum shorts. Girl you touch my heart, anytime you pass in your pum pum shorts.” ~ Red Fox, Pose Off

Pum pum shorts. Coochie cutters. Short shorts. Whatever you call them, summer is coming and the time to show off those legs and assets are here!

However, pum pum shorts can be intimidating and confusing to some. How short is too short? Is it okay if some of your ass cheeks show? Where do I wear these? I can’t find a pair that seems to fit right. These are all questions and concerns that have been raised by women who dare to wear these scant shorts. Here are five easy hacks to help you rock pum pum shorts this summer.

Confidence is a must.

This look is not for the insecure. Be confident in your bod when you are rocking these short shorts. Everyone is looking at you because you are FABULOUS. If you don’t feel good in the shorts, people will instantly be able to tell. Body language is everything.

How short is too short?

That’s up to you to decide. Go with what feels comfortable. If you are going to be constantly yanking them down, pick a slightly longer length or pull a Sasha Obama and wear some biker shorts underneath. I tend to show more cheek at the beach than in the streets, but that’s just my personal preference.

I keep on looking behind me to see if my butt is hanging out.

Ummm, you are supposed to get a little ‘cheeky’ with this style! For the more conservative set that doesn’t want to do this. Wear a silk kimono or blazer over the look. Chrissy Teigen rocked the look on Mother’s Day with a silk kimono.

Mother's Day Brunch – low and slow scrambled eggs, chicken and waffles and roasted bacon, oh my!

She then rocked pum pum shorts again on Monday evening while out with John Legend with a $3,267.00 Givenchy deconstructed black tuxedo blazer. Whether you want to dress the look up or down (and cover your butt while showing off your legs), there is a way to do this.

I’m having trouble finding a pair that fits me.

Then create your own! Take a pair of old jeans that you own and fit well (or thrift a pair) and follow these steps:

  1. Materials: you will need jeans, a pair of scissors, and a marking pen.
  2. Cut off a majority of the length so the jeans are easy to work with.
  3. Put back on the shorts and then draw the shape you want them. **I find a slight diagonal cut is flattering on most body shapes**
  4. When cutting the back, leave a little extra room for adjustment.
  5. To have each side be even, simply fold over the jeans and trace the shape.

Viola! You have pum pum shorts.

WHERE do I wear pum pum shorts?

Wherever you damn well please! If you are new to pum pum shorts, I suggest wearing them to the beach first. Get comfortable with them! They look great at summer day parties, BBQ’s, and nights out in Brooklyn.

Cheers to the cheeks!
