Because the bulk of the Black community, and the fact that the Clintons have a proven record of helping Black people, we endorse Hillary Clinton for president of the United States because we think she is the best overall candidate.

We are not endorsing any of the three Republican Presidential Candidates.

The GOP presidential candidates as well as every U.S. Senator and Congressmen have vowed to gut all of the programs that President Obama has pushed through which makes the Pat Toomey U.S. Senate race critical. The winner of the Katie McGinty, Joe Sestak, and Braddock Mayor John Fetterman, Democratic race will seek to unseat Toomey. All the top Democrats, including President Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, and U.S. Senator Bob Casey have endorsed McGinty, mostly because they feel she has the best chance of beating Toomey. But despite all the endorsements Sestak won the latest poll, receiving 41 percent to McGinty, 31 percent, and Fetterman 9 percent. Either of these candidate would make a far better Senator than Toomey, but we endorse McGinty not only because of her stand on issues affecting the Black community but because with the support of all the top Democratic elected officials she will have the resources to defeat Toomey.

District Attorney Stephan Zappala is from western Pennsylvania and is running for Pennsylvania Attorney General against veteran attorney John Morganelli, and Josh Shapiro. Shapiro has received just about all the major endorsements, including President Obama as well as the Black leadership from the Philadelphia area. We endorse Shapiro because he has shown his willingness to work with the people as well as the police in making sure each side is treated fairly and objectively. There have been some questions about Zappala’s handling of the Leon Ford, Jordan Miles cases as well as others where he appeared to be unwilling to go against the police even though they were clearly wrong.

Mike Doyle14th Congressional District vs. Janice C. Brooks. We endorse Doyle because of his proven record of supporting causes and issues that affect the Black community.

We endorse Jay Costa Jr., 43rd Senatorial District because of his support for issues affecting the Black community.

Jake Wheatley vs. Jessica Wolfe in the 19th Congressional District and Ed Gainey vs. William Anderson 24th District House of Representatives, are no brainers. We commend Wolfe and Anderson, for their efforts in running for these seats but we endorse Wheatley and Gainey because they are proven leaders not just in politics but also in the communities they serve as well as outside. Both have been very visible to the community as well as the Courier during their time in office.

We endorse Eugene A. DePasquale for Pennsylvania Auditor General because he has done an excellent job while serving in this position.

Once again we urge you to vote, because it’s one of the most important rights we have as American citizens. Don’t take it for granted. If you don’t vote you lose your voice.
