As friends and family gathered at Lighthouse Cathedral to say their final farewells at the funeral services for Jerry Shelton, Brittany Powell and Chanetta Powell, Allegheny County police continued searching for the persons they believe are responsible for the backyard ambush that claimed their lives along with those of Tina Shelton and Shada Mahone, and Chanetta Powell’s unborn child.
Allegheny County District Attorney Stephan Zappala said the police have two suspects and, so far, have initiated four searches based on sealed warrants since last week. He said the crime lab is still a week or two from completing its analysis of physical evidence from the crime scene, and that an arrest will be made, but is not imminent.
“I am cautiously optimistic,” he said.
As to reports that one of the suspects had fled the state, Zappala spokesman Mike Manko said he had “no information on the suspects.” Nor would he comment on whether or not the $20,000 reward offered through the county by the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives had helped to develop leads on the suspects.
