Amanda Felicia Foote was born to play the role of the sassy Deloris Van Cartier in the stage production of “Sister Act.”
“I’ve been hoping to play this role for the past four years. I’m overly pumped,” said Foote, 24. “There are roles that I believe people were meant to play. I truly believe that role was written for me. I have to play the role and now it’s happening. I used to watch the movies growing up as a kid. Whoopi (Goldberg) was one of my favorite actresses growing up because of her energy and because of how bold she is. Besides watching the movies, I remember when the Broadway production came out I was in school and I couldn’t audition for it. Now it’s happening four years later.”
“Sister Act” is based on the 1992 film of the same name which featured comedienne/actress Whoopi Goldberg as the feisty title character, Deloris Van Cartier, a disco diva who witnesses a murder and is placed in witness protection at a convent disguised as nun Sister Mary Clarence.
