Highmark Health welcomed Cornell Brooks, president & CEO of the NAACP, as its special guest speaker during the organization’s celebration of Black History Month. Brooks addressed an audience of approximately 150 Highmark employees and regional leaders including Mayor Bill Peduto, the African American Chamber President and CEO Doris Carson Williams, Highmark Health President and CEO David Holmberg, Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh President and CEO Esther Bush, and many others.
Sponsored by Highmark Health’s Black Network Business Resource Group and the Office of Diversity & Inclusion, the event highlighted the 2016 national Black History Month theme of Hallowed Grounds—recognition of the communities created during centuries of migration by African Americans and their deeply embedded imprint on the narrative of the American past and present. Brooks focused on the importance of Inclusion in his remarks.
