Spike Lee and Jada Pinkett Smith plan to boycott the February 28 Oscar ceremony because of the all White slate of major nominees for the awards.

Blacks have been boycotting White events and White companies for at least 50 years with little progress to show for it.

Today, Blacks represent less than 1% of the top positions in corporate America but make up 12% of the nation’s population and as stated above Blacks are 0% in the 2016 Oscar selection.

There has to be a better way to address these inequalities. I suggest that Lee, Smith and other people of color in Hollywood start their own studio and produce their own movies. There are major benefits for producing your own shows such as instead of showing African-Americans as slaves, boxers, piano players, comedians, or actors with shaved heads and using poor grammar

as the White media and some Black actors and directors do.

Progressive Black owned studios can present people of color in leadership roles in nation building, economic development, research and science. Positive roles produce positive people who can build a nation that refute the stereotypes of bigotry and racism.

Our future is in our hands and it is up to African-Americans, Hispanics, Whites and others to build a nation free of discrimination and injustice.

Build Baby Build.
