There’s a certain level of growth, shall we shall evolution, when it comes to designers. If we’re going to be totally frank, it’s not easy to create at least two collections annually with a distinct look and inspiration.
But for LaQuan Smith, who has been designing since he was in kindergarten, the challenge is a thrill.
“I’ve changed a lot since my first collection in 2010,” Smith told HelloBeautiful. “The brand has evolved so much stuff since the start of the business in 2013 – we are creating options for all of our customers. Simple separates for the cool girl next door and edgy, daring styles for stylish woman.”
Smith started his namesake brand six years ago, but gained fame when artists like Nicki Minaj and Lady Gaga wore his clothing on stage and to major events. Using PVC and laser technology, the talent was doing things many had never seen before.
This go-round, the Queens-native worked with BigCommmerce to create a shoppable collection with a bossy edge, ushering in a new wave in fashion. By going to his BigCommerce designed site, customers can order and wear his presented pieces in two weeks. Fast fashion in the larger spectrum is becoming instantaneous.
But for Smith his version of fast fashion isn’t comprising on the quality of his brand.
“This season we played with shapes and textures so I see the LQS woman wearing an oversized bomber with a fitted sultry bottom.”
Adding, “I also customize boots through a partnership with Lust For Life so these amazing boots are exclusively sold on laquansmith.com. They bring the collection of ready to wear together and compliment the brand perfectly.”
With all the transition and progress being made by Smith, we had to know where the Doberman Pinschers held by the models came into play –as this is the first time we’ve seen dogs in a presentation. “I was scrolling through Tumblr and was instantly drawn to a particular picture of the Dobermans. The dogs inspired the collection –the look and feel for ‘Hunter Glam’.”
Creating new collections with technology and innovation in mind. Looks like LaQuan’s evolution is on the right track.
