GIRLS WITH PEARLS—Evelyn McMullen Stephens, Ladora Jamison and Agnes Curry

Maybe you saw it on Facebook or perhaps you marked it on your calendar from a previous year, but Jan. 17, was Michelle Obama’s fifty second birthday. Ladies around the world honored her and wished her a happy birthday from afar by wearing pearls. There is actually a Facebook page called, “Girls With Pearls,” that is dedicated to First Lady Michelle LaVaughn Robinson Obama.  If you look at her photographs you will see that she loves to wear pearls and beautiful necklaces.

The creators of the Facebook page have no ties to the first lady or the White House. On the days surrounding Jan. 17, there were no shortage of ladies wearing pearls supporting the first African American first lady. The New Pittsburgh Courier spotted a group of Girls With Pearls at the DoubleTree in Monroeville at the Delta Card Party on Jan. 16, and they all wanted to say “Happy Birthday, first lady.”
