Carol Hardeman is having a hard time finding the right birthday card at Ross’ SHOP ‘n SAVE on Centre Avenue in the Hill District, but she’s not that worried because she can always look again tomorrow—she’ll be there, just like she has been nearly every day since the store opened one year ago.

PICK A CARD, ANY CARD—Hill resident Carol Hardeman looks for a birthday card while doing her almost daily shopping at the Ross’ SHOP ‘n SAVE on Centre Avenue.

SUGAR RUSH—Mildred Morrison power walks through the cereal aisle as she makes her rounds at Ross’ SHOP ‘n SAVE on Centre Avenue in the Hill.

“I’m here all the time, before work, after work. It’s just so convenient,” she said. “I live in the Hill and work in the Hill, and I love having this store here.”

It’s convenient for the employees as well. Bakery clerk Janice Murray lives in the Hill and loves the store too.

“I think it’s absolutely wonderful,” she said. “We get compliments all the time. The food is fresh, and I love my co-workers, and it’s a really great asset for the neighborhood seniors.”

Store manager Ed “Mr. Ed” Mottiqua agrees, and he’s working to make sure more people do.
