Authorities said Team USA Soccer goalie Hope Solo seemed to be under the influence when they took her into custody for domestic violence.
Cops told TMZ.com that the professional soccer player appeared “intoxicated and upset” when she was arrested Saturday morning over claims that she’d beaten up her sister and her nephew.
The person who called 911 to report the incident told operators that an unnamed woman was “hitting people,” and authorities peg Hope’s 17-year-old nephew as one of the victims.
Supposedly the brawl was sparked by an argument during a family get together, and the Seattle Times reports that police noted that the attack left both Hope’s sister and nephew with visible injuries.
Hope was booked on two counts of domestic violence. It’s not clear at this time if she would face any other charges, like injury to a minor, for assaulting her nephew because he is under the age of 18. She is due in court tomorrow.
However, Hope’s lawyer is charging that the soccer player has been wrongly accused because she was also a victim in the family melee.
“Hope is not guilty of any crime,” Hope’s attorney said in a statement emailed to the Associated Press. “In fact, our investigation reveals that Hope was assaulted and injured during this unfortunate incident. We look forward to the opportunity to present the true facts in court and to having this matter behind Hope very soon.”
