The primary election is Tuesday, May 20 with the focus being on the governor’s race. Even though most of the races are uncontested we are making endorsements in three other races.

All four of the candidates for governor, Katie McGinty, Tom Wolf,  Allyson Schwartz, and Robert McCord, have very solid views on how they would improve conditions for African-Americans in the state. We were more impressed with Tom Wolf.

The priority for all four is education, which we also feel should be at the top of the list. Allyson Schwartz was impressive with her child health care program as well as her stand on the Affordable Health Care Act, stating that any flaws should be corrected but right now it is a big plus to the low- and middle-income families.

Wolf stated that he would not depend on others when it came to diversity in his administration, that he would be his own diversity chief.  He pointed out that two of the key people in his company now are African-Americans, and that he would fight for all people if he became governor.  He stated that because be runs his own business he would better understand what businesses go through in trying to get government contracts.
