On Sunday the North Hills Ebony Women (NHEW) held their 34th Annual Membership Tea at the lovely home of Carol Groves in Gibsonia, Pa. The group is made of ladies from in and out of the state of Pennsylvania.

Some came to the area to attend college, some relocated because of work. They like to travel, garden and cook, and their professions range from attorney to certified image consultant to medical social worker. The members and their prospective members enjoyed a delightful afternoon and at the close of the tea a beautiful tea pot was presented to the hostess.

The NHEW Inc. was founded in 1979 and has provided over 30 years of programming and sisterhood. The organization is a support, service and social organization for women of similar interest and background who are devoted to the continuous recognition of African-American heritage, education and unity. Over the years the membership has changed, but dedication to their mission has remained strong. Their members are very active in Pittsburgh and the northern area communities in which they reside as mothers, wives, professionals, volunteers and collectively as members of NHEW Inc. As a group they present programs on the Life and Times of Martin Luther King Jr. to local schools, and provide scholarships, mentoring, support programs, and collaborate with other North Hills organizations to host the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Unity Breakfast and Multicultural Festival.

If you reside in the North Hills area the NHEW meet on the third Friday evening monthly on the LaRoche College Campus at 7 p.m. in the Ryan Room.
