Seminar Series

OCT. 13—The Alzheimer Disease Research Center, the Alzheimer Outreach Center and the University of Pittsburgh will host The Walter Allen Memorial Seminar Series at 2 p.m. at the Hill House Kaufmann Center, 2nd floor conference room, 1835 Centre Ave., Hill District. The topic will be “Genetic Studies of Behavior Changes in Alzheimer Disease.” The guest speaker will be Dr. Robert Sweet, Professor of Psychiatry and Neurology ADRC Clinical Core Psychiatrist of the University of Pittsburgh. Fashion Show

OCT. 15—Selections by Genea & Eric will host its 7th Annual Fashions for a Cure Fundraiser Fashion Show/Luncheon from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Willow Room, 800 Plaza Dr., Belle Vernon. Partial proceeds will be given to the UPMC Cancer Center at Jefferson Regional Medical Center for Breast Cancer research. Tickets are $35 in advance, $40 at the door. Orchid Festival

OCT. 15—The Orchid Society of Western Pennsylvania will host a Fall Orchid Festival from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Phipps Garden Center, 1059 Shady Ave., Shadyside. HIPS Seminar

OCT. 15—WORDSBYWAYS will host the HIPS (Habits Inspire Personal Success) Women’s Motivational Seminar from 12-4 p.m. at the Cabaret Ballroom, 7928 Frankstown Ave., Wilkinsburg. Teen Symposium

OCT. 18—Educating Teens about HIV/AIDS Inc. will host the “Reclaiming Our Youth through Community Connections IV: Focus on Boys and Young Men Symposium” from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Holiday Inn University Center, 100 Lytton Ave., Oakland. This two-day symposium is to assist boys and young men in making healthy choices that will impact their lives. Cancer Center Gala

OCT. 19—PNC will host the 2011 Hillman Cancer Center Gala: “A Future Without Cancer” from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at the Consol Energy Center, 1001 Fifth Ave., Downtown. This is a donor recognition and fundraising gala to benefit the Hillman Cancer Center, the UPMC Cancer Centers and the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute. Funds raised will support the multidisciplinary collaborations needed to achieve the goal of stopping cancer. There will be a cocktail reception at 5:30 p.m. The dress is cocktail attire. Anchors away gala

OCT. 20—Addison Behavioral Center will host its 2011 Anchors Away Gala from 6-9 p.m. at Churchill Country Club, 800 Beulah Rd., Penn Hills. OCT. 22—East Liberty Concerned Citizens Corp., Larimer Blueprint Community/Operation Hammer Crime Block Watch, the Larimer Action Team and Faith Based Organizations will host a Neighborhood Clean Up from 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at 328 Lincoln Ave., East Liberty.
