From the outset we knew that this year’s Armon Gilliam “Hardwork” Basketball camp was going to be different…special if you will. And it was.

For more than 80 years, kids enjoyed and endured a two day basketball session of skills, drills, games, exercise and most importantly education and life skills lessons that will take them far beyond the basketball court.

It began with the coming together of some of the area’s all time greatest players all of whom felt the loss of Armon Gilliam. Some played with him, some against him and some simply admired him and his great career.

This year’s camp staff included camp director and former Connie Hawkins League superstar Warren Wilson Jr., Slippery Rock All American and NBA star Myron Brown, former Hawkins League All-Star and NBA prospect and member of the Sky Walker Club Eugene Wilson, coach O.J., and coaches Alex, Anthony, and Mike. It is because of the commitment and dedication to Armon and the hardwork philosophy that make the camp successful.

Special thanks go out to sponsors the Savoy Restaurant, Chuck Sanders Charities, Penn Ave McDonalds, the Plum McDonalds, Dave Smith Chevrolet, Vocelli Pizza, Penn Hills Eat N’ Park, Champion Enterprises, Five Starr Corporation, and most especially Highmark Corporation and the Penn Hills YMCA and director Jay Hope for the dedication of their faculty, their amazing staff and the “Y” members for sharing time with us.
