Mt. Ararat Baptist Church located at 271 Paulson Ave. in East Liberty, held service to Four Ladies Praising One Lord on April 3.

A magnificent gift of praise in song to a near capacity crowd of gracious souls. Reverend Robin Pollard, assistant to the pastor of Shiloh Community Missionary Baptist Church, served as Mistress of Ceremony to four of the finest voices in gospel music: Valetta O’Kelly, Mt. Ararat Baptist Church; Rev. DeNeice Welch, pastor of Bidwell Street United Presbyterian Church; Minister Deborah Moncrief, Missionary Temple COGIC; and Donna Allen, Shiloh Community Missionary Baptist Church.

They were accompanied by the Pittsburgh Gospel Choir under the direction of Herbert V.R.P. Jones.

Allen, who is the daughter of O’Kelly, organized the event. She said she had wanted to do it for a longtime, that it was a dream, so she just called the other ladies and they all agreed, somewhat to her surprise.

The four are among the greatest voices in gospel music in Pittsburgh and the country. They all testified to how glad they were to be a part of the evening with the other ladies, while praising God to a capacity crowd at the beautiful Mt. Ararat.

Each lady took a turn leading as the other three provided support as background singers.

O’Kelly also played the keyboards on some of the songs, especially the ones that she and her daughter did together.
