After a tragic car accident near the Robert Morris University campus in Moon Township, Rev. Jason Barr Jr. is under observation at an undisclosed hospital in the Pittsburgh area.

“He is in the step down unit of the hospital, under observation,” said Elder John Holloway, a representative of the family and Macedonia Baptist Church in the Hill District, where Barr serves as the senior pastor. “The family is asking for prayers and that you continue to keep him (Rev. Barr) and their family in prayer.”

The Step-down unit is for individuals who were once in an intensive care unit, but who need less monitoring than critical patients.

According to Holloway, Rev. Barr was dropping his son off at school Dec. 15, when a vehicle at the intersection of University Boulevard and Grant Drive, turned left onto University Boulevard hitting another vehicle, causing it to spin and hit Rev. Barr’s vehicle as he traveled on the road. The date, location and details were confirmed by a representative from the Moon Township Police Department.

Holloway said that Rev. Barr had to be cut out of the vehicle because he was pinned by the dashboard.

He was taken to the hospital and sedated. He received a bump and cut to the head, a wrist injury and scrapes on his legs.

Holloway would not give the hospital where Rev. Barr is staying, but as of Dec. 20, he said he is being closely observed, in part because of the surgery he underwent last year. In 2009 Rev. Barr underwent major surgery for a tumor in his head.

Reverend Barr has served as senior pastor at Macedonia since 1988. He has a wife, Kimberly, and a son, Jason.
