Remember and Revitalize was the theme of the third annual Hill of Hope Gala to benefit the Centre Avenue Y. The time has come for the Centre Avenue Y to be revitalized and renovated for the new construction of the Thelma Lovette Y. Together both structures will integrate with existing cornerstones in the Hill District community.

During the celebratory evening The Martin Luther King Jr. Reading and Cultural Center was awarded with the Hill of Hope Award. Honorary Chairs, Jane and Wendell Freeland were recognized, as well, and presented with an artistic rendering of the Centre Avenue Y. When Wendell Freeland arrived in Pittsburgh in 1950, he stayed at the Centre Avenue Y in room number 329.

The Gala committee included Brenda Tate (chair), Kimberly Wood (chair), Tom Burley, Ann Haley, C. Denise Johnson, Darlene Malone and Lorina Wise.
