Retired Alcoa executive, Earnest J. Edwards was honored by his alma mater, Virginia State University with the honorary degree, doctor of humane letters.

Edwards, a native of Pamplin, Va., has served on the board of visitors at Virginia State University since October 2003. He has served as both vice rector and rector. Edwards joined Alcoa in 1965 and retired as senior vice president and controller in 1999.

He is a 1961 graduate of Virginia State University. The honorary doctorate was bestowed to Edwards during the university’s 124th commencement ceremony.
