Kudos to the planning committee of Alpha Weekend 2010 (Alpha Omicron Lambda Chapter). May 28-31 had something for everyone. The Memorial Day weekend kicked off on Friday with “An Evening with the First Family” with a party at Bossa Nova hosted by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.

WE ARE ALPHA FAMILY—Chase Patterson, Jamil Alhassan and Sammie Dow.

Saturday night was made for smoking with the Brotherhood Smoke at the Executive Cigar Lounge. After a good smoke it was on to Tana’s Ethiopian Cuisine in the East Side of the city for a culture collision of jazz and cuisine. Guests dined, chatted and enjoyed the comfortable atmosphere of one of Pittsburgh’s newest minority-owned restaurants.

Sunday morning, Alphas and their friends and families worshipped at the Homewood AMEZ Church and presented the Hazel S. Outen Memorial Scholarship to Schenley High School graduate Jamie Harris. A Sunday night before a Monday holiday is perfect for partying and the party was serious at the “oh so chic” Wine Loft located in Southside Works. Hundreds enjoyed the ambiance of the night, and the night into morning—dubbed as “Kingdom Come.” DeeJay Nick Nice was on the wheels of steel and made sure everyone danced the night away.

Monday afternoon was time for grilling and chilling at the “We Are Family—The New Alpha Weekend Picnic” at the Westinghouse Lodge in Forest Hills. Just like the rest of the weekend it was an afternoon of good food, good fun and good fellowship.

The objectives of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. are to stimulate the ambition of its members; to prepare them for the greatest usefulness in the cause of humanity, freedom and dignity of the individual; and to encourage the highest and noblest form of manhood; and to aid downtrodden humanity in its efforts to achieve higher social, economic and intellectual status.
