Most book signings are held in a book store, and are typically a basic afternoon or evening. With Towanda Brown aka Motherpoetry nothing is basic.

Brown turned her book signing on April 16 into an evening of elegance at the beautiful and eclectic Montage Interior Design Studio in Point Breeze.

NEVER WOULD HAVE MADE IT—Jenika Brown (daughter) Carol Ramsey (sponsor), and Towanda Brown (author).

Friends and family turned out for an evening of live entertainment and dinner and enjoyed the vocal dynamics of Sonya Carter, creative interpretation in mime from Keenan Young and awesome gospel music courtesy of Brian Wright.

In between selections Brown delivered the spoken word from her book “Journey With My Eyes Wide Shut (Publish”

She didn’t just read the poetry, she performed it, complete with costume changes. Brown, who has been free of substance abuse for 16 years, says her book is not about making money but to “empower and to inspire.” The evening was somewhat of a roast as friends and family stepped to the microphone and shared stories about Towanda. There were a lot of how did she get here moments.

Speaking of how did she get there, Brown arrived at Montage in a stretch limo. She says she wanted to ride in one before she dies, so she can really enjoy it.

Brown says often her poems are so powerful that men will come to her and apologize for all the women they hurt after they hear some of her work. In turn she apologizes for the women that may have hurt them.

The delectable meal was catered by close friend, Harry Burrie.

Inside Out

by Motherpoetry

(Towanda Brown)

God wants us to bloom like flowers at all times

That’s why he loves us first from the inside

God loves us inside out and just the thought should make you shout!!!

Have you not learned? Do not live in doubt

And whatever it is God will work it out

So be like a flower and let yourself bloom

A beautiful flower doesn’t grow in a dark room

And when you feel like you want to check out

Let God the Father love you inside out.
