More than 300 ladies were all-in for the annual Delta Sigma Theta Card Party Jan. 23 at the Rivers Club in Oxford Center. The gathering got off to a great start at 11 a.m. as the large group took stock of the Chinese auction items. The day was full of laughter, gifts and a lot of joyous noise. Event co-chair, Chris White Taylor, encouraged everyone to look at the person next to them and say, “Girl, you look good.” During the luncheon 50/50 raffle tickets and chances on the box of money were available.

THEY DEALT THE WINNING HAND— Curtistine Walker (president), Chris White Taylor and Anita Walker.

The sunny afternoon was a great opportunity for those who had been snowed in to thaw out and recover from cabin fever. A comfort food menu consisting of turkey, cornbread stuffing, green beans, cranberry sauce and mashed potatoes was tasty and well received.

After lunch it was time for the prizes to be drawn. Marsha Dorsey was the winner of the money box. There was even a prize for the worst seat in the house. The person who held the Joker at that table, Eugenia Knight, walked away with a prize spa basket.

Many patrons received surprise packages from their table sponsors. The Walkers gave their table guests beautiful Pashmina scarves. Guests were also encouraged to share their good fortune by placing a donation in the Delta Shared Treasures envelopes at their tables. The donations would go to a needy local family to assist them with utility payments or unpaid bills. After lunch, it was on to the game room for bid whist, pinochle, bridge, blackjack and bingo.

The fabulous ladies in red had a wonderful afternoon and the prizes and good spirits were plentiful. Curtistine Walker, Chris White Taylor and Anita Walker were event co-chairs.
