Appeals court upholds dismissal of ‘Soul Man’ suit

by Brett BarrouquereAssociated Press Writer Sam Moore may be “The Legendary Soul Man,” but a federal appeals court says he doesn’t have sole use of the title. The U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals on Thursday upheld the dismissal of Moore’s suit against the Weinstein Company and MGM studios over the 2008 film “Soul Men” and its soundtrack and promotions.

Jamie Foxx backs Trayvon Martin’s mom ‘forever’

Jackson addressed the racially charged case at Comic-Con in San Diego. Foxx was at the massive pop culture convention to promote his role as the villain Electro in “The Amazing Spider-Man 2.” Holding his 4-year-old daughter Annalise, who wore a Spider-Man backpack and shoes, Foxx said he was “disappointed” in the July 13 not guilty verdict in Florida.

‘Flight,’ ‘Django Unchained’ among NAACP nominees

LOS ANGELES (AP) — “Flight,” ”Django Unchained,” ”Beasts of the Southern Wild,” ”Red Tails” and “Tyler Perry’s Good Deeds” are up for the outstanding motion picture trophy at the NAACP Image Awards. The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People announced the nominations Tuesday for the awards that honor diversity in the arts. The 44th annual ceremony is scheduled to air Feb. 1 on NBC.
