The Atlanta Hawks confirmed the death, but didn’t provide details. The Hawks said Bellamy attended the team’s home opener Friday night. “Walt Bellamy was an enormously gifted Hall of Fame player who had a tremendous impact on our game,” NBA Commissioner David Stern said in a statement released by the league. “Off the court, he was an even more extraordinary person. Walt is going to be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. On behalf of the entire NBA family, our condolences and thoughts go out to Walt’s family.”

Track stars Lauryn Williams, Lolo Jones one step closer to Winter Olympics

But it’s also safe to assume that — once again — they’d be plenty fast. These two U.S. Track and Field stars got one step closer Saturday to another Olympic Games, this time in wintry Russia. They are among the women named Saturday as “push athletes” for the Americans’ six-women bobsled team, according to the USA Bobsled and Skeleton Federation.

In a somber twist, the world-famous athlete will be served with the murder indictment on the day Steenkamp would have celebrated her 30th birthday.
