McCutchen wonders what might have been for Pirates

The All-Star center fielder doesn’t plan to make any calls to right-hander A.J. Burnett, right fielder Marlon Byrd or any of Pittsburgh’s other free agents in an attempt to talk them into staying.

Pirates beat Reds 4-2, wait for wild card rematch

by Joe KayAP Baseball Writer CINCINNATI (AP) – The preliminaries are done. On to Pittsburgh and the playoffs. Jordy Mercer had a triple and an inside-the-park homer, and the Pirates completed a three-game sweep of the Cincinnati Reds with a 4-2 victory Sunday that was mostly an afterthought for teams looking ahead to a rematch in Pittsburgh.

Burnett says he no longer cares about personal statistics. “It’s all about the team,” the Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander said. “We’ve got something special really special going on here.” Burnett, however, admitted it was nice to get a win Sunday. He hasn’t had too many of them this season.
