Taking it to the street ‘Operation Inasmuch’

Rodman Street Missionary Baptist Church took to the street Sept. 11. With a blessing of great weather, the men and woman of RSMBC continued a movement that has endured for more than 100 years throughout the United States and around the world.

The volunteers, both adults and children, made hand-crafted care packages, which included lunches and arts and crafts. The prayer team also gave blessings. This tradition dates back to 1897 by African-American Baptists who committed themselves to advancing God’s word throughout the world.

Repeats

Most women are magazine junkies. We love magazines. When I’m checking out at the grocery store I love to read the magazines while I’m waiting to pay for my groceries.

But I’ve noticed something and I’m wondering if other people are noticing it. The feature stories on the front are the same or so close to being the same that you could buy the magazine once and not need to pick it up again.

About that car...BMW 335d—it’s a diesel

by Frank S. Washington

DETROIT (NNPA)—I just wrapped up a one-week test drive of one of the slickest low profile sedans around—the BMW 335d.

Most important is that “d” stands for diesel. And despite the rather low grade U.S. reputation of oil burners as they are called in this country, my admiration for diesel engines grows every time I drive one.

The 335d Sedan features BMW Advanced Diesel technology with BluePerformance for maximum output.

In the case of the BMW 335d, it adheres to the Munich-based automaker’s brand image of powerfully precise and responsive premium priced automobiles.

Peppermint Soiree

On Aug. 28, at the Marriott City Center, the first Peppermint Soiree-Summer Breeze was held. The Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, (Pittsburgh Alumnae Chapter) and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity joined forces for an evening of fun and madness. There was something for everyone, jazz in one ballroom, line dancing and a DJ in the ballroom down the hall and food stations, silent auctions and vendors in between.

The vendors came from as far as Atlanta, Washington, D.C., and as close as Ohio. More than 700 people enjoyed the evening and for many it was a reunion or old home week.

Sportscaster Alby Oxenreiter of WPXI was the emcee for the evening with entertainment provided by deejay Stephan (Broadus) of the New Pittsburgh Courier. The event is hosted each year by the “Bus Stops Here” Foundation, an organization dedicated to improving the overall quality of life for troubled and underprivileged children. Through health and wellness camps, computer literacy classes and reading programs, they provide at-risk youths with resources to learn to distinguish between healthy and unhealthy choices.
