Going green
Written by Debbie Norrell
I recently joined the “Green Team” at work. We try to come up with good viable ideas that are kind to the environment. There is so much you can do to be kinder to the planet. One of the things I suggested was a “greener” Christmas. When most people are thinking of a white Christmas I thought this was a clever idea.
Most shopaholics (me included) love to go shopping for bargains the day after Christmas and we love to buy gift wrap and cards to use next year. When the holiday rolls around somehow the rolls of paper are nowhere to be found. While I was doing a little cleaning in my guest room I discovered that I have more than enough wrapping paper for every occasion. My green commitment for this holiday season is not to buy any wrapping paper until I use what I have on hand.

Style...Beverly Johnson opened doors in ‘70s
Written by LaMont Jones
(Part three of a four-part series)
Dark and lovely, she descended the steps outside Bryant Park in Midtown Manhattan wearing high heels and a colorful asymmetrical dress.
“That’s Beverly Johnson!” a young man shouted, prompting her to pause, smile, and wave as he and other onlookers took her picture with cell phones and digital cameras.

The 57-year-old former fashion model’s appearance was a treat for the scores of curious folk who lined the sidewalks in front of the park on that particular day of Fashion Week last month. They congregate there for hours, hoping to get a glimpse of a star yet oblivious to the fact that celebrities usually enter and leave through side and rear doors to avoid, well, people with cameras.

Compassion in action
Written by Debbie Norrell
The energy was strong and the ballroom was full at Churchill Valley Country Club Sept. 26 as Ruth Ministry of Petra International Ministries hosted their Women of Faith and Prayer Luncheon. The theme was “Women of God Embracing Our Legacy.” The Ruth Ministry Mission Statement: “We believe, as God is our Lord and Savior and the Master over all of our lives, that the time is now for the ministering and mentoring of His Word. In our communities, it will begin with the women who will bring birth to His vision.”
| ENJOYING THE PROGRAM—Deacon Catherine Whitely, Deacon Cassandra Johnson and Elder Nellie Mells.

That Saturday afternoon the mission was accomplished via prayer, song and recognition. Minister Denice Matthews performed the opening prayer and Doretta Lemon Fallen was introduced as the luncheon chair. Deacon Cassandra Johnson shared the history of Ruth Ministry. Ruth Ministry was founded in 2002. They have stood on the firm belief that God has purposed their ministry to be the birth canal for issues related to women.
