SIDS Cribs for Kids honors women achievers

Sudden Infant Death Services of Pennsylvania, held their fifth Annual Women of Achievement Awards Dinner at The Omni William Penn Hotel on William Penn Avenue, Downtown.

SIDS of PA, is a voluntary health organization whose mission is to provide support to families, friends and communities affected by Sudden Infant Death Syndrome or other infant death.

SIDS of PA was created in 1981 and is governed by a board of directors from across Pennsylvania. In conjunction with District Attorney Stephen A. Zappala Jr., the late Mayor Bob O’Connor and Judith A. Bannon, executive director of SIDS of PA, recognized the the need for safe sleep education and 1998 created the Cribs for Kids campaign.

The evening’s gala was held as appreciation to the women who gave their time and efforts to those who needed the most care, our children. Brenda Waters of KDKA-TV served as the mistress of ceremonies.

The women honored were Sally Hobart Alexander, author; Betsy Benson, vice president, Pittsburgh Magazine; Jean Bryant, founder, Miss Black Teenage Pageant; Elaine Effort, broadcasting; Mona N. Generett, Ph.D.–Banking; Bev Smith, talk show host; Natalia Rudiak–government; Commander Linda Rosato-Barone, law enforcement; Lourdes Sanchez Ridge, corporate law; Eve Picker, Urban Change Maker; Peggy Morrison Outon, nonprofit executive director; Mary McKinney, Ph.D., University Business Education; B.J. Leber, corporate foundations; Rhonda Moore Johnson, MD. MPH, health care; Lynn Griffin, government administration; Judy Greenwald Cohen, director, Jewish Women’s Foundation; Pam Cohen, owner of P&G’s Pamela’s Diners; Sammartino Dacal, Nonprofit development; Leslie C. Davis, president of Magee Womens Hospital; Linda Dickerson, entrepreneur; Faith Dickinson, media and film; and Lynn Griffin, government administration.
