R&B giant Connors brings classic sound to city

Excited about the kickoff event launching their new business venture, Ron Atkins and Craig Dawson were pleased with the results of the recent Norman Connors concert. “It was a great performance and a unique way for us to introduce Radio Magic Pittsburgh to the region, said Dawson. More than 125 people brought in 2010 at the Four Woods Grill in Squirrel Hill to the music and creative performance of the drummer, composer, arranger and producer.

Sharing the stage with Connors, who announcer Aubrey Bruce classified as one of the top producers of the century, was singer Joe “Street” Stonestreet an original member of Blackstreet, keyboardist Noal Hydue and bassist Ronnie Wingfield. The hometown brother2brother duo, Winston (guitar) and Chaz (drums) Carter, served as backup musicians and Antoinette Manganas, also a Pittsburgh native, displayed her vocal ability. The night ended with The Tubby Daniels Band.

Out & About at Gandy's in Homewood

This week I visited Gandy’s aka the 30/30 Lounge in Homewood, The Greater Pittsburgh Coliseum in Homewood and The Heat in the Strip District, CJ’s in the Strip District, Taru’s family holiday in the ’Burgh, Tim’s Lounge in the Hill District and Ava Lounge in East Liberty.

My first stop was at CJ’s in the Strip District where everyone was still celebrating the fifth anniversary of the establishment in grand style with musicians from all over the city of Pittsburgh.

I had to show some more love to the Schenley All Alumni Reunion because it was off the chain at the Greater Pittsburgh Coliseum in Homewood.

My next stop was at Heat (formerly Dreamz Night Club) in the Strip District where everyone was getting their party on with the grand opening.

Cover To Cover...‘That Bird Has My Wings’

By no stretch of the imagination would anyone say that the man in the orange jumpsuit could be called “nice.”

The metal around his waist and wrists attest to his badness, and the look on his face further cements it: this is a man that few people would mess with. But once upon a time, he wasn’t bad at all. Awhile back, that man in the orange jumpsuit was a little boy in blue overalls. He’s a menace now, but he was someone’s baby then.
