The Rainbow Nation: Still More Voices

We don't live in a world of fantasy. And if we try sooner or later comes the reality check. This is increasingly apparent in a nation with an historical cultural problem that mirrors that of its sister nation, the United States. The question even arises, variously, did the US copy SA, or vice versa? Still, it is not at all surprising that important debates are emergin in that deeply troubled nation. Not so ironically, with so many Americans traveling to that nation, it is clear that some of the debate mirrors that same revisionism that emerged at the wake of Bakke v California, 1978, in which the "reverse discrimination" ploy is born. But here is the latest from our conjoined twin: Many maintain this continuing debate is born and sustained with the notion that South Africa is a "white" nation in Africa with a "black" majority. http://www.thoughtleader.co.za/sekoetlanejacobphamodi/2013/01/13/rescuing-whiteness/

USA and SA: Twins Still Conjoined?

I find a debate going on in South Africa hitting too close to home here in the USA to overlook. So I'm again going to post a link that continues a look into other points of view on a mutually shared theme as shown in my previous post, "The SA Democracy: Another Poin of View." http://www.thoughtleader.co.za/readerblog/2013/01/04/reflections-on-an-epistle-to-white-people/ Alas a theme so deep as the one reflected in the links, themes dating away back to the reign of Gloriana in the 16th century and -- who knows? Ever earlier -- stick around long after prudent men and prudent women have come and gone. After all, didn't it take the Holy Sea some five hundred years to offer up an apology to Galileo who simply observed that the earth was a sphere? Ah, those intractible and mischievous orthodoxies!

From this photograph of Mandela and his wife Graca Machel you'd think all is well in his rainbow nation. But there seem to be other voices on the subject. Please take a look at this link which addresses the new racism that holds any critique of segregation/apa rtheid/colonial ism/imperialism is intrinsically "anti white." co.za/gilliansc hutte/2013/01/0 2/dear-white-pe ople/ Many are concerned that the Mandela legacy may not hold up under the light of forensic examination. But do consider this article.
