This is a piece about a new political direction for Americans of color doubtless many have been thinking about for some time. However, I kept looking for a reference to the economic success of the Greenwood Heights section of Tulsa, OK., during the 20s as an example of what can be done. Should this be a study in a self sufficiency we once enjoyed? Take a look. http://traditionofexcellence.wordpress.com/2008/02/08/tulsa-oklahomas-greenwood-district-black-wall-street/ And maybe it's time we move away from naming organizations along color lines. The objective, economic self sufficiency, would not change. The National Black Chamber of Commerce could become The Greenwood Chamber of Commerce, something less obvious. For example, The Log Cabin Conservatives is essentially an organization promoting LGBT concerns without the neon lights associated with things gay. We could adopt a less racially obvious title, too.
