Resistance to African American Concerns: A Long History

Resistance to post-slavery African American human rights concerns have a long history. I again post: "Chester A. Arthur, America's 21st president, (1829-1886), a champion of civil rights, worked to improve conditions for both African Americans and Native Americans. He secured better educational opportunities for Native Americans, though many of his efforts toward civil rights were blocked by resistance from Congress and the Southern Democrats." What is worrisome is that with power emanating from other competing political arenas, Latinos, for example, who will go from 13 pct of the populace today to one fourth of the electorate by 2050, the African American might continue to pay a tremendous political price at the ballot box. Currently, USA Today says that the African American population stands at 12 pct but only at 13 pct by 2050, an increase of only one percent. Are we, therefore, going to pass on a nagging and persistant legacy, then, to our descendants?

Obama: An Usual Ethnicity

President Obama indeed has an unusual ethnicity and social upbringing. His Hawaiian birth. His attendance at the private Punahou School. And his subsequent residency in Indonesia. So, yes, like Tiger Woods, he is a "multicultural. " Unique in this sense. But some historians have pointed out this interesting fact concerning his ethnicity. It has been shown that his mother, Stanley Ann Dunham, had an African American forebearer: "Ancestry.com announced on July 30, 2012, after using a combination of old documents and yDNA analysis, that Dunham's mother may have been descended from African John Punch, who was an indentured servant/slave in seventeenth-cen tury colonial Virginia.[11]" It is also recorded that the descendants of Mr. Punch, President Obama's African American link by way of his mother, married only caucasians. And one caucasian relative has stated that, despite the finding of an African gene, he considers himself nevertheless caucasian.

Power: Responds to the Highest Bidder

The president of the United States responds to power. And that power resides in the hands of the highest bidders. Don't you find it interesting that at a time of questionable economic stability that the president is pushing LGBT concerns? Why? LGBT lobby is one of the highest bidders in his campaign for presidency and reelection. On another front, Latinos, long asleep but now wide awake, are now showing their profile in the ranks of power bidders. The concerns of Americans of Jewish heritage are addressed whether a Republican or Democract occupies the White House. And even the evangelicals are behind Jewish concerns. Then, too, the "center" is now considerably to the right than, say, under President Nixon. And that's saying a lot. And as a consequence, we have lost considerable momentum on the human rights front, escpecially in the wake of successful anti-affirmativ e action countermeasures . So he's president of at least SOME people!

He is the President of all people.

Obama is the President of the United States. He is not the Black President of the United States. Once he starts staying Black this and Black that, he will play into the hands of the people in this country who are against him. Obama may look Black but he is half Black and that Black is African not descendent of Slaves and Jim Crow. He does not think as a common Black man in this country would think. That is how he got into the position that he is in today. The only Black policies that he will champion are policies that benefit all people including Black people like health care.
