Fitness class SEPT.4—Zumba will host a Fitness Class at 9 a.m. at the Dance Café, 50 S. 7th St., South Side. This is a fun fitness class that lets participants dance themselves to a better person. Meet the principal S EPT. 4—The Greater Beltzhoover Interagency Network will host its ninth “Annual Meet the Principals” from 6-7:15 p.m. at Upper McKinley Park Recreation Center, 900 Delmont Ave., Beltzhoover. Residents of Beltzhoover, Knoxville, Allentown, Mt. Washington, Mt. Oliver, Bon-Air, South Side, Arlington, Carrick and the surrounding areas are welcome. There will be principals from several local schools and some guest speakers. There will also be announcements and updates from various community organizations. Ultimate fund-raiser SEPT. 6—Bobby Rahal BMW of South Hills will host the “Ultimate Drive” from 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. at 2897 Washington Rd., McMurray. This is a fund-raiser for the Susan G. Komen “For the Cure” Pittsburgh foundation. There will be 25 BMW vehicles available for a test drive. For every mile one is test driven, $1 will be donated to the foundation. There will also be a breast cancer survivor parade at 9:30 a.m. For more information, call 412-342-0500.
Voters training SEPT. 8—Various local organizations will host a Voter’s Education Training class at 8 a.m. at the Allegheny County Department of Human Services Building, 1 Smithfield St., Downtown. This is a two class nonpartisan training that is organized to increase the participation of voters. There are two sessions that are open for attendance, 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. The second class will be held Oct. 8 at the same times. Registration is requested and space is limited. Project bundle up SEPT. 9—The Homewood-Brushton Salvation Army will host a sign- up for volunteers from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at 8020 Frankstown Rd., Homewood. Volunteers will sign up to assist the organizations to provide items for seniors and children during the Christmas season. Every Monday through Wednesday until Sept. 17, the organization will be available for those interested in signing up. For more information, call 412-242-1434.
Girl talk SEPT. 9—The Center for Family Excellence Inc. and the Values for Life Parenting Group will host “Girl Talk” from 5:30-7 p.m. at 409 Dinwiddie St., Hill District. This is a rap session with speakers, munchies and games. This is a place where women can come alone or with their daughters. The facilitators will be Dawnise Kozen and Eugenia Kenney. Health expo SEPT. 12—The Rankin Christian Center, UPMC Living-At-Home and Eastern Area Adult Services will host their annual Body, Mind & Spirit Health Expo from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at 230 Third Ave., Rankin. There will be exhibits and activities related to health. There will be glucose, cholesterol, hearing and vision screenings as well as information about nutrition, health insurance and stroke prevention. This event is free and opened to all ages. Yoga certification SEPT. 13—The Healthy Black Family Project at the Center for Minority Health at the University of Pittsburgh and the National Exercise Trainers Association will host a Yoga Certification Training from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Kingsley Association, 6435 Frankstown Ave., East Liberty. Participants will learn various positions, safety cues and modifications with props for formatting a class. It will run Sept. 13-14. The cost of the training is $359. Rib cook-off SEPT. 13—The Union Project will host the third annual “Duke of Ribs” Cook-off from 3-6 p.m. at 801 N. Negley Ave., East Liberty. This is a cooking competition that gives amateurs and professional restaurants a chance to battle. There are three categories.
