Speak Out...What is the major problem in Clairton and what can be done to solve it?
Clairton, a community fighting to overcome the closings of its steel mills, recently held its annual Community/Reunion Day. We decided to ask Clairton residents what they thought the major problem in their city was and how it could be solved. Here’s what they said.

Clairton desperately needs jobs and recreation for our youth. Guidance in these areas is mandatory in my opinion.

There are no activities for youth in Clairton, and no local jobs in our area. An indoor type facility or a closer park for the youth would be great.

Clairton doesn't need recreation. Most of the residents don't even use the pool!

Cliarton, like Duquesne, needs to get rid of the dope and the criminals.

I attended the Duquesne Community Day celebration. The racist whites didn't attend. It was a terrible display by the citizenry. The folks who did attend had a great time and Macedonia Baptist and the volunteers did a super job! Thanks Al Gooden!

So maybe Clairton needs to rid itself of racism too. The town is a great town. But a small percentage of people bring fear and loathing to our streets.

And why do taxpayers need to pay MORE money for a recreation building? When we were kids we found things to do and enjoyed games and fellowship. Many of today's kids are looking for trouble. Parents need to be involved so that children become proud again to represent their families in the community!
