Program anniversary

JULY 31—The Program to Aid Citizen Enterprise (PACE) will host their 40th Anniversary Grantees Open House from 2-5 p.m. at One Gateway Center, Suite 500, Downtown. PACE is celebrating their grantees and acknowledging them. PACE is a nonprofit community- based organization assisting African-Americans and economically disadvantaged communities. Social outing

AUGUST 1—Glamourlife.com and JRP & Gaskins Productions will host First Friday: The Summer Soiree” from 11 p.m.-3 a.m. at Cunningham's, 680 S. 4th St., Downtown. This event is for people 21 and older. There will be a two for one deal before 11:30 p.m. The dress is upscale/sexy and jeans are permitted, but athletic apparel, sneakers or ball caps are not. Fitness class

AUGUST 2—Zumba will host a Fitness Class at 9 a.m. at the Dance Café, 50 S. 7th St., South Side. This is a fun fitness class that lets participants dance themselves into a better person. There are classes every Wednesday and Saturday. For more information, visit www.zumba-sb.com.

Fashion show

AUGUST 2—The Kids Care Ministry of Rodman Street Baptist Church will host their annual Back-to-School Fashion Show at 5 p.m. at 6111 Rodman St., East Liberty. There will be singing, dancing and a display of the hottest back-to-school fashions. Admission is free. For more information, call 412-377-6696.

Fund-raising event

AUGUST 3—The Himalayan Institute of Pittsburgh and World of Serenity Wellness and Retreat Spa will host a fund-raiser event from 1-6 p.m. at 10162 Frankstown Rd., Penn Hills. This is an event to support the Himalayan Institute’s Community Center in Kumbo, Cameroon in Africa. The center is the first of many planned across Africa committed to improving the quality of rural life through empowerment projects that provide vocational training along with micro-enterprise development. On the outside stage, there will be a yoga class, Zumba fitness class, storytelling, African dance and drumming. There will also be other workshops inside the spa. The Market Place will feature art, food and hand made jewelry from the Cameroon Community Center. Admission is free. For more information, call 412-371-2931.

Community meeting

AUGUST 9—Councilwoman Tonya D. Payne will host a District Six Community Meeting from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Duquesne University’s Power Center Ballroom, 600 Forbes Ave., Uptown. At the meeting Payne will discuss plans for a new supermarket that is going to be built in the Hill District. This event is open to all. Celebration picnic

AUGUST 10—Amachi Pittsburgh Mentoring Program will host their “Hands Across Pittsburgh” Summer Picnic from 1-5 p.m. at the Rink in Schenley Park, Oakland. This event is to celebrate fives years of mentoring to youths. Through a unique partnership among secular and faith-based organizations, Amachi Pittsburgh works to mentor young minds, ensuring that all children are rightfully recognized as children of promise. All community members are welcome. There will be food, fun and friendship. There will also be magicians, jugglers, pottery painting and a live remote broadcast by WAMO.
