Ziegler named assistant living administrator at Covenant

Julie Zeigler has been named administrator of assisted living and supportive services at Covenant at South Hills, one of the area’s largest and most well regarded life care retirement communities, located in Mt. Lebanon.

Chris Francis, acting executive director of Covenant, made the announcement.

Zeigler has more than eight years experience in senior care/retirement living, having most recently served as director of resident care at UPMC Canterbury Place in Lawrenceville.

She was previously administrator of Assisted Living Concepts, Inc., in Penn Hills; a clinical nurse supervisor for Quality of Life Meds, Pittsburgh; and was an LPN staff nurse in the cardiac catheterization lab at the VA Medical Center in Oakland for six years. She was also in the U.S. Naval Reserves from 1996 to 2004.

“Julie brings a wealth of experience and lots of new and exciting ideas to Covenant from a medical, business and administrative perspective,” Francis said.

“We’re delighted to bring her to Covenant where her broad expertise will benefit residents and staff in assisted living and memory support, as well as those who use our supportive services,” Francis said.

In her new role at Covenant, Zeigler is responsible for the clinical and administrative staffs that manage all activities and services provided to residents in 48 assisted living suites, plus 12 in memory support.

She also supervises the team providing supportive services to those residing in assisted living, as well as those in the 126 independent apartment residences at Covenant. These supportive or “concierge” services offer a multitude of benefits to residents such as assistance with in-home services, wellness activities and many other resident support programs.

“I’m exceptionally pleased to be here at Covenant,” Zeigler said. “The position allows me to apply the knowledge I’ve gained in my previous positions in senior living, nursing, management and even in the reserves. The staff and residents are very open and welcoming, and I’m looking forward to doing great things here to maintain the quality of care Covenant has become known for.”

Zeigler’s earned an MBA in management from Point Park University, after earning a bachelor of arts in liberal studies with a minor in biology from Carlow University. She also earned diplomas as an LPN and in diversified health occupation. She was the 2003 recipient of the Nightingale Award of Pennsylvania; received the Secretary of State Award in Excellence in Nursing at both the local and regional levels; and has undergone significant continuing education and training, including receiving certifications in geriatrics, critical care, basic life support and cardiac care, among others.

In addition to a busy professional schedule, Zeigler finds time to volunteer with her church as well as with many professional and charitable organizations. Born in Youngstown, Ohio, she now lives in Mt. Lebanon.
