Speak Out: What would make you feel safer in your community?
The recent surge of shootings in the first two weeks in July has renewed questions of safety, especially in the wake of a home invasion/double homicides, a young mother and her two babies in their home, and two armed robberies in Homestead’s Waterfront shopping complex. At this rate, July will surpass the total number of homicides in June, which was nine. In light of this spate of senseless killings, we asked, “Do you feel in your community. What, if anything, would make you feel safer?” Here’s what you said.
You never feel safe with too many shootings; it puts your family in danger. They should have more cameras. Rick Hill Auto detailer Wilkinsburg
Not in this neighborhood. The police arrest somebody out here about once a week. A security guard would help. Angie Taylor Store manager Penn Hills
No, I don’t feel safe; it’s so dangerous! What would make me feel safer is if more responsible people in the community work together and look out for one another like back in the day. Leslie Kendrick Dry cleaning clerk Hill District
Yeah, absolutely. If the young brothers would tone it down, that would help. Jack Reynolds Contractor East Hills
No! Better management, more security. Parents need to do something with their kids to keep them off the streets. Shayla Wallace Single mother and student East Hills
Yes. There are plenty of police that drive up and down Frankstown. Stephanie Moye Hair salon operator Penn Hills

i don't feel safe. too many people carry guns whether they do it legally or illegally and they want to push other people or hassle people simply they have a gun to back them up.
i dont buy into the idea that everyone who has a concealed weapons permit is a good guy. it only means they aren't a convicted but it does not make them a good person. why doesn't the paper start reporting where the guns came from when there is gun violence?
