Edith Wharton was quoted as saying, “There are two ways of spreading light; to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it.”
On a recent evening Bethlehem Haven let their light shine with a one-of-a-kind Designer Lamp and Art Auction at the PPG Wintergarden.
Bethlehem Haven took this perfect opportunity to introduce their recently named executive director, Lois Mufuka Martin. Martin is a native of Zimbabwe and returns to Pittsburgh with a background in social work, nonprofit management and nonprofit consulting. Her early career began as a social worker at the Salvation Army in Pittsburgh.
HONORARY CHAIRS—Franco and Dana Harris.
Since 1981 Bethlehem Haven has grown from its humble beginning at the Smithfield United Church and celebrated 26 years of helping homeless women.
They now provide 97 beds in various capacities ranging from a 60-day emergency shelter, to transitional housing, to permanent supportive housing for treatment resistant, chronically homeless and mentally ill women.
Former Pittsburgh Steeler Franco Harris and his wife, Dana, served as honorary chairs while KDKA-TV’s Brenda Waters served as emcee.
