How many of you got the e-mail about a special scheduled show to come on CNN on June 23 and 24? I’ll bet a lot of you went from channel to channel on that Monday looking for a show about women and families.
The second night was to be about the Black man’s plight in America. I, like you, kept looking and wondering why I was watching Larry King instead. I have nothing against King, but I wanted to see the special.
I went back to my e-mails and opened the attached site and found that the show is scheduled for July 23 and 24. So we all have time to see it.
It sounds like both nights are worth watching. The show will be hosted by Soledad O’Brien.
On a lighter note, Martin Lawrence is adding his brand of humor to “Martin Lawrence Presents First Amendment Stand Up.” The series with 10 new episodes will be hosted by Doug Williams and executive produced by Lawrence.
Thirty-five of today’s hottest comedians, from the veteran to the New Jacks, will share their knockdown funny perspective on politics, relationships, marriage, sex, children and a whole lot more.
DJ Biz Markie will spin the music. Remember Biz from Celebrity Fit Club? He lost quite a bit of weight but I hear he put it all back on.
Some of my favorites will be featured on this series—Bruce Bruce, Lavell Crawford, Ricky Smiley, Joe Torry, and that fine Don DC Curry.
The catch to catching this great lineup is you have to subscribe to Starz on your cable package. The show premieres July 9 at 10 p.m. and every Wednesday after that.
I don’t think Lawrence is getting his props as a comedian. “Martin” was a funny show. Lawrence played numerous characters and played them well, from the little boy with the runny nose to his mother with the gray wig.
He should receive major credit for the “you go girl” phrase and “whaz up?” The show “Martin” made those terms popular.
Not only has he been successful on television, his movie credits include “House Party,” “Talking’ Dirty After Dark,” “Boomerang,” “A Thin Line Between Love and Hate,” “Bad Boys” I and II, and, of course “Big Momma’s House” I and II, just to name a few. He has two new movies out this year “Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins” and “College Road Trip.”
His body of work is pretty impressive. Let’s not forget the concert film “Runteldat.” He had me on the floor with that one. I enjoyed the series “Martin” so much I bought the entire series on DVD.
Don’t forget Lawrence was the first handpicked comedian to host HBO’s “Def Comedy Jam” by music mogul Russell Simmons. Lawrence worked on the show for two seasons and is credited with helping to expose a new generation of stand up comics including Chris Tucker, Damon Wayans, Steve Harvey and Cedric the Entertainer.
Let’s hope Lawrence’s days of running in the street acting “you so crazy” are over, he seems to be doing just fine.
Lastly on the mark your calendar list is the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. KSEF annual Golf Tournament July 12 at Butler’s Golf Course in Elizabeth, Pa.
Registration begins at 7 a.m. and the shotgun start will begin at 8 a.m.
